Valerie Tiscareno is a photographer and storyteller originally from the Los Aneles area, with deep roots in the vibrant Chicano culture of Long Beach. Growing up in a Mexican-American family, her work is inspired by the complexities of identity, culture, and community within the Latine experience.
Currently based in Columbia, Missouri, Valerie is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Journalism with emphasis in Photojournalism and Documentary Film at the University of Missouri, along with a minor in Art. Her photography and documentary work explores the challenges faced by the Latine community, addressing issues such as assimilation, stereotypes, racism, generational disconnect, and the intersection of cultural identity in today’s world.
Through her lens, she seeks to tell authentic stories that capture the lived experiences of the Latine community, with the aim of amplifying voices and fostering greater understanding.
